The woman is clearly of a high standard and comes from a very wealthy family. She is used to being tended to and getting what she asks for. She is very demanding and would not know what to do or how to live without the support of many servants. She most desires being treated in a manner of utmost formality and majesty as that is what she thinks of herself.

Name: Adelia
Age: 26
Heritage: English
Birthplace: Dorchester
Physical aspects: Tall, auburn hair, milky-white pale skin, light robes, dark-smoky eyes and lips
Qualities: Beautiful, seductive, manipulative
Station: Aristocratic (wealth)
Motive/Importance: A witch in disguise - like a spider, she lures her 'love-struck' victims into her chamber and then turns them into animals (see the boar to her left).
Summary: Adelia is portrayed as a seductive and beautiful woman. Her dark features (eyes, hair and lips) indicate her frightening demeanour whilst her milky-white chest and translucent robes contrast to form her alluring and tempting qualities.

Character Profile Homework Empty the painting

Post by rcutf1 Tue May 24, 2016 3:36 pm

The Painting appears to be of a woman sitting in a golden chair holding a chalice and a sword. beside her there is a boar and as seen in the mirror there appears to be a man. the woman is obviously used to having power and is showing this through her actions of rasing up her glass and sword at the same time. it could be symbolic to the guy in the mirror, maybe as a sign that he must show her respect. the purple blue clothes she is wearing could imply that the woman could be of some royalty.

The woman in the painting is Circe, known as the goddess of magic. She appears to be seated on a throne that has three lions carved in gold. Her throne also is on a higher floor level. The dress she is wearing is most likely to be made out of silk. This is a clear indication of wealth and high-class. She can be seen holding glass containing a potion in one hand and holding a wand in the other. The potion that she has contained in her glass has the ability to bring Odysseus, a legendary Greek King, under Circe's spell. The hog to the left of her represents the fact that she has transformed one of Odysseus' crewman into a hog.

Character Profile Homework Empty Character Profile

Age: Around mid 20s
Appears to be from Ancient Greece due to clothing and architecture.
Physical aspects: Flowing dress and flowing hair
Posture including the arms outward and head tilted up allow the audience to perceive her as someone with authority and being of a higher class.
Interesting traits: There is a mirror behind her instead of in front of her and in the mirror it appears someone is bowing down to her.
She is facing the audience to place them in Ulysses position.

For those who have yet to post their response; use the painting only as inspiration! The task was not to explain what the painting was about, but how you could characterise the woman seen in the painting, knowing nothing else
